  1. The templates were helpful, the difficulty I faced was not having notes from the book on hand. In the future I'll need to have my notes with me as they are useless at home. Questions raised in my mind are what words to use in reference towards race and locations. It doesn't feel write to use some of Tennenbaum's terminology. The writing process in itself is simple, I tend to draft a lot until what I've written sounds write in my own head, it will probably take me a few days to write a 4-5 page essay, depending on the topic and my interest in it.

  2. 1. i found this all difficult.

    2. i need time to write down all ideas on paper before i translate it onto a computer.

    3. i realized that i enjoyed and found it very useful to read the summaries and works of other students. from the professor all i need is tips on what is being done wrong and what can be improved.

    4. so far in my reading i honestly can't even tell if he has a specific tone. i wonder if its my dislike for the book or if im not reading it correctly.

    5. i've noticed that it is incredible difficult for me to write well. it requires me to write down all idea on paper first. i am accustomed to writing on paper and doing several brainstorm and draft pages before even starting a paragraph.

    6. on paper it looked like i wrote 2-3 paragraphs. when i put it on the computer it looked like two tiny paragraphs. i think it would take me a total of 10 hours to write a 4-5 page essay honestly.

  3. From working on this summary in class, I've noticed that the writing process is somewhat relaxed. Although, it did take me awhile to focus most of my thoughts on Slave and Citizen into a paragraph or so, I remembered this would be rough draft towards the first essay. Which gave me a good head start on it.

  5. 1. As far as easiness goes, I had some of the major points noted so it was easy to elaborate right on sight.
    2. In the not too far future something that I'll need to write faster, successful summaries is identifying main point at a briefer scale.
    3. I need some schooling are scaling out main points so my summaries will be easy to write.
    5. I've noticed my writing compared to other classmates seems a bit for free paced and somewhat of a critic writing structure, if that makes any sense.
    6. In 40 minutes I nailed like 3-4 paragraphs scorning for other supporting information. I wouldn’t say that’s great timing but I’m not shunning myself because of that. As for creating a 4-5 page essay I’ll need a few steady set hours in collaborating such a work.

  6. Normally I'm used to writing summaries and such but even if I do read a passage the only problem that I have is how should I decipher and translate it.Not only that I need to make some time and see if I can pick up on the reading itself and see I can make better arguments whenever class is active.I guess I could probably write an entire page if I read it out.

  7. I think writing the summary was much easier because we had previously discussed and written about different arguments and claims Tennenbaum makes in class. I found it a little difficult because I didn't bring the first section of slave and citizen to class so I had to rely on my notes to remember what Tennenbaum had said. In the future I'll bring the entire book to class. I think its helpful when the professor comes around and checks in so I know I'm on the right track with what I'm writing. Its also important to go over exactly what is expected from us before we write the summary. I'm not used to writing in class(or doing anything in class) but as long as the assignments are clear and not to long I'm ok with it. And summarizing isn't hard as long as I have good notes. I wrote couple paragraphs today which seemed like a lot for a summary, but pretty good for the basis of a longer essay. I'm not sure how long it would take me to write a longer piece of writing because I would want to edit more and that could take a while.

  8. 1. writing about the summary was fairly easy, but starting what to write about was difficult.
    2. try and identify the main argument the right way.
    3. how to write a better summary.
    4.
5.ive observed that my writing needs alot of work. my writing needs alot of practice. i think it comes naturally just need to work on what i need to write on and not go off track. prolly after 4-5 sentences id be comfortable.

    6. i could write about alot of things for a 40min period. i just would like to make sure if im doing the write thing. and probably 2-3 days maybe....

  9. 1) The easy part was simply writing down the summary after you figured out what exactly you wanted to write and how. The hardest part was actually figuring out what to write and how to word it.

2)In the future for me to be able to write a better summary I need to understand the text more clearly and have ready a lists of quotes or points I want to discuss.

    4) From what we have read so far Tannenbaum is concentrating on the slave in the Spanish Empire, I need to understand the condition of the slave in the Unites States to be able to show the contrast in my paper between both worlds.

    5) I have noticed that I just summarize in my writing. I'm not so sure how to add my own thoughts with out saying "I think". it sounds lame to write that in a paper.

    6) I wrote two short paragraphs. Not much. From experience I know it takes me a very long time to write a 4-5 page paper. Perhaps days or one very long day with breaks in between. I find ideas flow better if you step away from the screen and come back with a fresh mind.

  10. -The summary was a bit difficult because it's very tricky to write a proper synopsis for a reading this long and complex.
-I realized that in the future I should take better notes so it will be easier to find the excerpts I had in mind. It would also make it easier to connect the dots.
    - I realized that the process of forming my ideas in writing is a long process for me because I try to find the best possible way to reflect my thought.
    - One issue I had was using the proper terms to describe different areas or groups of people.

  11. 1.I had difficulty with understanding the reading. 2. I need to focus more. 3. Nothing really, everything is good as it is. 4. I don't have any questions as of now. 5. I'm comfortable with the writing process and i usually have to write about 2 paragraphs to be comfortable. 6. I didn't write as much in 40min simply because i have not read the reading. I would say it it would take me about 3 hours or so. ( thinking, writing)

  12. What was difficult about this summary for me was putting all these ideas into my own words, making it clear, detailed, and quick to the point. I don’t know exactly what I need from myself that stops me from writing a successful summary. I think the class opinions and your templates helped make it easier for me. It was a matter of what I need from the class or you in order to write a successful summary it’s more of what am I lacking in my writing that stops me from easily writing my summary. The questions that I have about the new world and slavery is what I see myself mostly stumbling about. How to differentiate the south or Brazil, arglo, from the Spanish part, to describe the two different parts and fully understand what was the big difference in how they viewed African Americans. What i observed from this writing process is that what i have to write doesn’t usually come naturally to me or flows as im going. I stay stuck on a certain word and from there it gets harder for me to continue with my writing. i need at least 6-8 sentences to feel comfortable about what i wrote. I didn’t even get to write 5 sentences. Its was way easier to write about how hard it was to complete my summary  D:

  13. 1. I found it easy to remember Tannenbaums argument, it was difficult because I forgot my well put together notes... not cool

    2. I need to transfer my notes so that I may have access to my own train of thought and discussions/details that happen in class. Instead of relying on this amazing memory of mine which is not that bad I realized

    3. I think youre doing great and I think everyone in class is pretty attentive and I enjoy their insight

4.right now I'm still working on the difference between america or anglo vs. spanish countries and the major difference I noticed I was a little lost while writing

    5. sometimes I feel I write pretty vague or I dont get my point straight across the way I want to. I find it a little hard to express myself and often find myself writing then erasing everything and starting again repeatedly. Summaries do not come naturally for me especially today with not having notes. I have to write at least 5 to feel comfortable. Being able to write as much as we do here is helpful because clearly there is growth since the first assignment.

    6. I wrote a paragraph. For myself it will probably take me 3 days ... with extreme focus

  14. 1) In the due today summary Slavery and citizen it was very difficult for me as ESL student. There were many words that i did not understand which made me be lost on my reading and in the summarys.
    2) I will need to practice reading, writing and learn vocabulary words.
    3) I will need some help from classmate and Professor how to do a full successful summary.
    5) Im really lost in New World slavery in understading it.

  15. 1. The easy part was take all the notes and arguments and put them together in the templets. The hard part was looking for more arguments to support my statements.
    2. I need better critical thinking and better my reading comprehension to write a successful summary. And also I usually require more time to do good summary.
    3. From the class I always like to listen to ohters peoples comments and compare mines with thems and there are always good comments. The professor can adive me about my work and how can I do better.
    4. First is more knwoledge when it comes to history and understanding opening my mind to different ideas, since I was never taught that way.
    5. The templests reallu help.
    6. i didn't right that much. To write 4-5 page assay it could take me many days to be satisfied with my work.
